The average sea temperatures in Tasmania in July are between 13.2 °C and 14.8 °C (55 °F - 57 °F), with similar water conditions everywhere around the island. Unless you have a wetsuit, this time of the year is too cold for swimming.

In Hobart and other coastal places, snow in July is rare, but you can head to kunanyi/Mt Wellington or Cradle Mountain to enjoy a snowball fight. Tasmania has two ski fields operating in the winter months: Mount Mawson, situated within the Mount Field National Park near Hobart, and Ben Lomond, 60 km (37 mi) east of Launceston.

The Festival of Voices is an annual event held in early July. For two weeks, world-famous Australian and international singers and choristers perform in concert halls, theatres, and public spaces across Tasmania. The highlight of the festival is Hobart’s Big Sing Bonfire where thousands of people gather at Salamanca Place to sing together.
NAIDOC Week is a country-wide celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the First Nations people and participate in a range of activities and events in Launceston, Hobart, and the city of Burnie on Tasmania’s North West Coast.
Tasmanian chilly winters offer perfect conditions for growing black truffles. The annual Tasmanian Truffle Festival held in Launceston runs throughout July and includes everything from harvesting workshops and truffle cooking classes to degustation dinners.
As the temperature drops during the cold winter months, some Tasmanian wildlife species remain active, including spiky, slow-moving echidnas. Watch these cute animals as they form love trains as part of their unusual mating ritual. Mount Field, a couple of hours drive from Hobart, and the Bridport area in northeast Tasmania are the best places to spot echidnas in July.
