Average daytime temperatures in Tasmania in August oscillate between -2 °C (28.4 °F) in Central Highlands and 15 °C (59 °F) along the East Coast. 

In 2020, many places had their lowest August temperature on record. On 7 August, the temperature dropped as low as -14.2 °C in the town of Liawenee in Central Highlands, setting a new cold record for Tasmania.

Snow accumulation remains under an inch in most parts of the island and coastal areas rarely see any snow at all. Launceston got 30 cm (12 in) of snow on 4 August 2020, its most significant snowfall since 1921.
