The Cradle Mountain turns into a beautiful snowy landscape in the winter, with endless possibilities of hikes through the frost-covered rainforest, from the relaxing Enchanted Walk to the challenging 65 km (40 mi) Overland Track snowshoeing walk suitable for the most experienced hikers.

Whale watching

June is the perfect time for spotting rare southern right and humpback whales along Tasmania’s East Coast, as they migrate north to the warm waters of Queensland. The best places for whale watching are Frederick Henry Bay and Great Oyster Bay, while sightings also regularly occur around Bruny Island and on the Tasman Peninsula.

Aurora Australis

Clear winter nights are ideal for observing the southern lights of the Aurora Australis. Tasmania's islands and national parks, including Bruny Island, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and the Central Highlands, have low light pollution and offer the best chance for watching the flickering lights illuminate the night skies.
