Best Things to Do in Margaret River in February

February in Margaret River is packed with events, natural wonders, and cultural experiences. From the adrenaline-pumping Busselton Jetty Swim to the beauty of Sugarloaf Rock, from the vibrant South West Craft Beer Festival to the mesmerising outdoor movies at Cape Mentelle, there’s so much to see and do. Busselton Jetty Swim

February brings with it the well-known Busselton Jetty Swim, which is an annual 3.6km ocean swim around the iconic Busselton Jetty. The event started in 1996 with 80 competitors, but now hosts over 4,000 swimmers and is spread across two days. If you’re an avid swimmer, you can even sign up to compete (you just have to enter the ballot to get in). 

Otherwise, settle back on the shores and enjoy the sight of 4,000 swimmers plunging into the waters. There’s also plenty of entertainment and activities for those who stay on land, including the family-friendly Busselton Jetty Swim Sunset Concert.

South West Craft Beer Festival

February also brings with it The South West Craft Beer Festival. It brings a day filled with more than 150 craft beers from more than 20 local brewers, including Rocky Ridge, Colonial, Eagle Bay, Boston, Brewhouse Margaret River and more. If you’re not a beer drinker, then don’t stress. You can also enjoy the gourmet food, sip on wine and cider and relax to the live local music. There are also special tickets for a nighttime session for those who don’t want the fun to end.

Sugarloaf Rock is a huge granite formation that rises from the Indian Ocean. In the summer, the rock is covered in warm sunlight that casts a golden glow over it. The clear summer skies are also perfect for capturing breathtaking shots of this natural wonder. Make the most of the cooler mornings and evenings in February and enjoy a sunrise or sunset walk to watch the changing colours that are cast across the rock. There are also plenty of scenic walks in the area for you to explore, with some designated viewing platforms that offer stunning views. It can get quite warm in the summer months, so be sure to pack the sunscreen!

Outdoor Movies at Cape Mentelle

During the summer months, the winery transforms into an inviting outdoor cinema. You can recline under the starry sky, sipping on award-winning wines, and feasting on local gourmet delights, all while enjoying a selection of films. The cinema showcases a diverse range of movies, from heartwarming comedies to gripping thrillers, ensuring there's something for everyone. You can even hire a bean bed for ultimate comfort. 

Discover Aboriginal Culture

If you’re looking to do something a little different, then check out the Wadandi Cultural Tours, led by the knowledgeable Wadandi custodian Josh "Koomal" Whiteland. Discover the history and traditions of the Wadanai and Bibbulman people and their deep connection to the land. During summer you can walk through the landscapes and enjoy the sounds of the didgeridoo, traditional fire-making tasting, native foods and bush medicine. It will bring about a whole new level of cultural appreciation.

The Aquarium, Yallingnup

The Aquarium in Yallingup is a hidden gem nestled between Smiths Beach and Canal Rocks. This small lagoon offers calm and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for exploring during the warmer summer months.

Simply follow Canal Rocks Road until you come to a small car park. From there, it's a 1.3km walk to this swimming haven. Grab your snorkels and start exploring straight away. If you feel like a break from swimming, then head to the rock pools where you can hunt for crabs and other critters, or simply relax back and float.

Just beware that you need to bring everything with you. There’s no toilets and no running water, so bring water bottles and leave the space exactly how you found it.
