Do you have one week to discover Tasmania, and you’re overwhelmed with where to start or how to fit everything in?
The experts at First Light Travel are here to help you plan the ultimate 7 day Tasmania itinerary - you really can pack as much, or as little, as you like into your dream week-long holiday.
Ready to plan like a pro? Let’s get started.
Where do I begin?
The most popular way to get to Tasmania is by air, where you can fly into the state capital of Hobart, or the northern city of Launceston. From either city we can help you plan a 7 day loop itinerary, or you can take your time and do a one-way trip starting and ending at different ends of the island.
I want to see as much as possible in a one week itinerary, but at a comfortable pace.

You get to see so much of the Apple Isle in only 7 nights and 8 days! You will visit:
- Charm-filled Launceston, a riverside town with Colonial and Victorian heritage buildings in abundance.

- Seaside Bicheno is the perfect place for relaxing foreshore walks, beachcombing and fishing. The guided twilight tour is a fantastic chance to see the world’s smallest penguins in their natural habitat.
- Experience the tranquility of Freycinet National Park on a cruise, with a delicious scenic lunch stop at Wineglass Bay.
- The Port Arthur Historic Site is a special place of vivid history. Take a Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and discover the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system with Port Arthur's expert guides.
- The state capital of Hobart, a harbour town with fantastic architecture, a thriving bar and restaurant scene and heritage charm.

For foodies: Add on an extra night’s stay for a day trip to Bruny Island, or head straight there on Day 7 from Port Arthur (2 hours drive time Port Arthur to Kettering ferry terminal). Bruny Island is perfect for lovers of cheese, wine, chocolate fudge, fresh berries, oysters, salmon, beer and whisky... heaven!
For nature and beach lovers: Take the long way from Launceston to Freycinet by detouring to the Bay of Fires – a slice of coastal heaven famous for its crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches and orange lichen-covered granite boulders.
For art enthusiasts and culture buffs: Mona, the Museum of Old and New Art is located just up the river from Hobart, you can drive there but we highly recommend taking the ferry from downtown. Mona's subterranean architecture showcases the highlights of David Walsh’s $110m private collection of art and antiquities, as well as hosting a busy exhibitions program.
Treat yourself to luxury accommodation: After a few days on the road, spend some extra money on a nice hotel or luxury lodge for at least one night: somewhere you can soak in a hot bath and sink into a heavenly mattress for the best night's sleep you ever had.
Tasmania is an island after all... I want to go sailing!
We don’t blame you! Our spectacular 7 day Luxurious Tasmania Romantic Getaway takes in the beautiful beaches, peninsulas and island trails found in national parks along the east coast of Tasmania. Experience the wonders of Hobart, Strahan, Cradle Mountain and Launceston.
Accommodation includes Mona Pavilions in Hobart, Peppers Cradle Mountain and the quaint Salt Box Hideaway in Strahan
