Hobart to Bicheno, visit charming Richmond
Your Tasmania adventure begins in Hobart (nipaluna), traditional land of the Muwinina and palawa peoples. After a welcome meeting, visit ningina tunapri, the Tasmanian Aboriginal culture gallery, to connect with the island’s heritage. Then, head to Richmond, a historic town with over 40 heritage buildings. Enjoy lunch and stroll through its charming streets before traveling north. Optional stops include a distillery or winery for tastings before continuing to Bicheno, where you'll spend the next two nights.

Wineglass Bay & Cape Tourville Walk
From your base in Bicheno, drive south to the beautiful Freycinet National Park, home to a wild domain of sublime beaches, whose powder-white sands are lapped by translucent waters. Join your leader for the walk to Wineglass Bay, voted one of the world’s top 10 beaches, then after lunch follow the path up to Cape Tourville Lighthouse. Pose for a picture (or two) in front of the panoramic views, and then head back to Bicheno. This evening, there’s the option for you to join a guided tour for a closer look at the life of the area’s Little Penguins as they return nightly to their rookeries to feed their young.

*The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is a Grade 3, 2.6 km/1-1.5 hours return walk. It is a steep hill uphill walk the whole way (and then back down), but with many places to stop for a rest. To get to Cape Tourville Lighthouse & Lookout is a Grade 1, 600 m/20 min walk mostly on a raised boardwalk.

Bay of Fires, Heritage Towns, Art
This morning, depart Bicheno and follow the Great Eastern Drive to the tranquil northeast corner of Tasmania, where the Bay of Fires awaits. Famous for its white beaches, turquoise waters, wildlife, and orange granite rocks, it's perfect for a scenic walk. Next, visit St Marys, a heritage town, then continue to Campbell Town, rich in convict history. Stop by local dairy producers to sample cheese and ice cream before arriving in Sheffield. Known for its murals depicting local stories, Sheffield has reinvented itself as an arts community, offering a unique cultural experience before your overnight stay.

Cradle Mountain Adventure and Tullah Escape
Drive to Cradle Mountain National Park, home to stunning wilderness, including alpine heath, beech forests, and glacial lakes. At 1,545 meters, the mountain is surrounded by icy streams and ancient pines. Explore the park on various walking tracks, including the Dove Lake Circuit, with your guide offering tailored options. In the afternoon, an optional activity is a visit to the Devils @ Cradle sanctuary to learn about Tasmanian Devils. End the day with a scenic drive to Tullah, a former mining town nestled on the shores of Lake Rosebery.

The Dove Lake Circuit is a Grade 3, 6km circuit typically taking around 2-3 hours. Your leader can suggest other suitable walks for the time spent at Cradle Mountain.

West Coast Wilderness and Tarkine rainforest
From Tullah, embark on a full-day exploration of Tasmania’s West Coast. Visit several lookout stops before entering the mystical takayna/Tarkine region, Australia's largest temperate rainforest. Home to unique species and ancient trees like myrtle and leatherwood, the Tarkine is a living link to Gondwanaland. Walk through pristine rainforest to Tasmania’s highest waterfall, surrounded by lush ferns and rocky cliffs. Continue to the edge of the west coast, where you'll spend the night in Strahan, a charming coastal town.

Return to Hobart via the Central Plateau
Start the final day on the Apple Isle by passing through Queenstown’s eroded landscape of treeless hills, then stretch your legs on some great short walks along the Franklin River and to Nelson Falls. Your next stop is Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, then continue over the Central Plateau and through the Derwent Valley. After traversing Tasmania back to Hobart, your adventure will come to an end. If you’d like to extend your time in Tasmania, please speak to your First Light Travel Designer.

Start & End Times
The trip starts in Hobart with a Welcome Meeting at 9:30 am on Day 1 at our joining point hotel and finishes back in Hobart on Day 6 at around 6 pm. Accommodation is not included on this day but can be booked on request.
